Play THerapy

Parents often wonder how they can reach, help, teach, and understand their child. Whether your child has experienced a life trauma or is simply having difficulty at home, school, or in relationships, play therapy is the means in which your child can heal. Simply, play is the child's language. Play expands self-expression, self-knowledge, self-actualization, and self-efficacy. Play relieves feelings of stress, connects people to a positive way, stimulates creative thinking and exploration, regulates our emotions, and boosts our ego. Play allows us to practice skills and roles needed for survival. Learning, development, and deep healing are fostered through play.

Play is an approach that builds on developmentally appropriate communicative and learning processes of children. The curative powers inherent in play are used in many ways. I will strategically use play therapy to help your child express what is troubling them when they do not have the verbal language to express their thoughts and feelings. In play therapy, toys are the words and play is the child's language. Through play, I will help your child learn more adaptive behaviors when there are emotional or social deficits. The relationship between myself and your child will provide a corrective emotional experience for healing. Play Therapy will promote cognitive development and provide insight and resolution for conflicts within your child. Play Therapy will allow your child to have the safe emotional and psychological distance they need in order to process their difficulties.
